CT Revolutionary War Trail

CRIS Radio teamed up with historians, archivists, museum curators and Central Conn. State University students to make Connecticut’s Revolutionary War history come to life with an accessible smartphone audio tour at more than a dozen historic sites in the state.

Visitors of the historic trail sites can listen to the audio tour by scanning a QR Code with their smartphone on signs displayed at the trail sites.

The project team includes CRIS Radio, Conn. State Library (archivists); CT Museum of Culture and History (researcher/archivist); Central Conn. State University (History Department);  Lebanon Historical Society; CT Daughters of the American Revolution, CT Sons of the American Revolution; Fort Trumbull State Park; Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park; Putnam Memorial State Park (Redding Revolutionary War Winter Encampment; CT Landmarks; and Ridgefield Historical Society.

Funding for the project comes from The NEAG Foundation and the Mortensen Foundation.

CRIS Solution

As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, it is important that individuals of all abilities, including those who are blind or unable to read due to other disabilities or print challenges, can access information about how Connecticut residents – from military and political leaders to lesser known individuals, farmers, women and people of color – played a pivotal role in the nation’s fight for independence.

As national studies indicate a small percentage of individuals with disabilities visit museums, the goal of CRISAccess® Tours is to make these Revolutionary War historic sites more accessible to individuals with print challenges to help ensure they can share in America’s 250th celebration of its independence.

Generous funding from The NEAG Foundation and the Mortensen Foundation helped to make this accessible smartphone audio trail possible, as well as the dedicated work of a team of historians, archivists, CRIS volunteers, and graduate students in Central Conn. State University’s history department working with Prof. Anthony Martin.
